Boys Varsity Track Waynesville Invitational Champions! The Spartans have continued their success by winning a second home invitational on 4/15/2016!   Spartan first place finishers were: Trevor Johnson- Long jump (20’5”), 400m dash (51.7)   Second place finishers: Max Austin- 1600m run (4:15.15) Bret Grismer- 100m dash (10.8) 200m dash (22.66) Ian Finkbohner-110m hurdles (16.8), 300 hurdles (43.9) Logan Bloom- discus (117’) 4x100m relay [Jimmy Plummer, Bret Grismer, Jake Hardin, VanDyke,]- (45.2)   Third place finishers:  John Nichols-Discus (116’ )4x800m relay [Max Austin, Brian Evans, Austin Phillips, Kyle Briggs]- (9:20) 4x200m relay [Trevor Johnson, Jimmy Plummer, Jake Hardin, Adam VanDyke]- (1:36.88)

Varsity Softball enjoyed another week of much improved play, winning 4 out of 5 games, and 7 of our last 10, overall.  The hard work our girls have been putting in has definitely started to pay off in much stronger performances at the plate.  In the latest overall statistics Waynesville now has 7 players with a batting average of .400, or better, with two of those players hitting over .500.  Varsity has been enjoying some strong pitching performances as well, with wins this week from each of our starting pitchers, Tori Wilson(SR), Sarah Jones(JR), and Skylar Stiles(JR).    Come out and join us for the Varsity game tonight, at Home, against Middletown-Madison at 5:00 pm, weather permitting.   

The JV softball team has also been enjoying success with 2 big wins this week, by run-rule, and solid pitching performances from Chloe Riddle and Bobbi McCoy.  The second half of the season is off to a great start for both squads, which should promise for an exciting end of season run.   

The Waynesville Middle school boys Track had a great showing at our home Invitational this past Saturday. The boys scored in 12 of the 14th events and were led by Parker Struewing who finished first in the 100 and the 200 hurdles and third place in the high jump. Mason Shoephoerster finished third place in the discus, while Dominic Riviello and Jerry Greed finished second and sixth in the hundred dash. In the distance runs, Colin Amato finished fourth in the mile and Levi Morgan finished eighth in the 800-meter run. Brayden Dietz had an outstanding effort in the 400-meter dash and finished fifth, while Jared Greer finished sixth in the 200-meter dash. The boys relay teams all placed within their respective relays and helped earn great points to finish second overall at our home Invitational.  

Middle School Girls Track placed 2nd at our Waynesville Junior High Invitational last Saturday.  A total of 15 schools were present at the meet, so that speaks volumes to our girls’ success and is a testimony to their hard work.  Both of our 4x200 relay teams placed.  Jaiden Byram, D’Laney Lezotte, Carli Brown, and Caroline Bensman secured 3rd place.  Grace Moore, Kate Rohrer, Meghan Zidaroff, and Devin Phillips scored in 8th place.  Eighth grader Megan Handle earned the team 22 points with 2nd place in the 100 meter dash, 3rd place in the 400 meter run, and 2nd place in the 200 meter run.  Eighth grader Caroline Bensman took home a 2nd place victory in long jump with a 13’2” jump, and eighth grader Lydia Vrettos placed in both her hurdle events: 4th in 100 meter hurdles and 7th place in 200 meter hurdles.  Finally, seventh grader Hannah Gill pushed for a third place victory in the mile with an impressive 6:02 minute mile!  The girls are ready for their next invitational at Clinton Massie this Saturday!  

Waynesville Varsity Baseball were road warriors this past week, winning games at Preble Shawnee (4-0), Northridge (20-1) and Middletown Madison (6-5) to take the lead in SWBL play. Hunt Doepel had a big night Monday night as he threw a no-hitter Monday evening at Preble Shawnee. Mason Callahan had a big win versus Madison with Jake Oakes getting a huge save. The Spartan Bats return to action tonight against Middletown Madison at home beginning at 5:00 PM. They currently sit at 11-2 overall and 7-0 in SWBL play.   Early lead gives the Waynesville Spartans JV victory over Miami East 10-0  The Waynesville Spartans JV jumped out to an early lead on Miami East and captured a 10-0 victory on Saturday. The game was decided quickly as the Waynesville Spartans JV exerted their will early with seven runs in the first three innings. An RBI single by Blade Roscoe, an RBI single by Jared Weaver, and a two-run double by Micah Spille in the second inning supplied the early offense for the Waynesville Spartans JV. Alex Hurley had two extra-base hits for the Waynesville Spartans JV. He doubled in the second and fourth innings. Spille baffled Miami East , striking out 11 batters. The Waynesville Spartans JV's pitcher gave up just two hits over five shutout innings. The Waynesville Spartans JV's Cameron AndersonJonas Boggs, Hurley and Weaver combined for seven hits and three RBIs. The Waynesville Spartans JV added three more runs in the bottom of the third. A ground out scored Boggs to get the Waynesville Spartans JV on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Anderson's single, scoring Hurley. The Waynesville Spartans JV tacked on another two runs in the fourth. A steal of home scored Anthony Carmichael for the inning's first run. That was followed up by Hurley's double, plating Boggs.   

JV Baseball has 11-1 victory over Preble Shawnee. The Waynesville Spartans JV jumped out to an early lead on Preble Shawnee and captured an 11-1 victory on Monday. The game was decided quickly as the Waynesville Spartans JV exerted their will early with eight runs in the first three innings. A walk by Brady Stone, an RBI single by Anthony Carmichael, and an RBI single by Jonas Boggs in the first inning and during the second inning fueled the Waynesville Spartans JV's offense early. Carmichael put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Waynesville Spartans JV. Cameron Anderson handled Preble Shawnee's lineup with ease, racking up eight strikeouts. Anderson allowed one earned run on two hits and no walks over five innings. Anderson, Carmichael and Boggs helped lead the Waynesville Spartans JV. They combined for seven hits and six RBIs.The Waynesville Spartans JV tacked on another four runs in the third. A clutch bases loaded walk scored Micah Spille to open the scoring in the frame. The Waynesville Spartans JV scored one run of their own in the fourth. The Waynesville Spartans JV scored on an RBI single by Boggs.   JV beats Northridge 25-2. Eleven runs in the first three innings allowed the Waynesville Spartans JV to put the game away early. An error, a two-run double by Tyler Wells, and an RBI single by Alex Hurley in the first inning and a three-run home run by Brady Stone, a passed ball, and an RBI single by Dean Brubaker during the second inning helped the Waynesville Spartans JV put some runs on the board early. Cameron Anderson reached base four times in the game for the Waynesville Spartans JV. He scored four runs and had two RBIs. He tripled in the fourth inning. Hurley baffled Northridge , striking out eight batters. Hurley allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks over four innings. The Waynesville Spartans JV easily handled Northridge pitching as 10 hitters combined for 15 hits, 18 RBIs and 25 runs scored.  The Waynesville Spartans JV scored 14 runs of their own in the fourth. The Waynesville Spartans JV scored on a passed ball, a passed ball, an RBI single by Hunter Clements, an RBI single by Wells, an RBI single by Hurley, a walk by Brubaker, a groundout by Jon Byers, a two-run triple by Anderson, an RBI single by Clements, , an error, an RBI single by Jonas Boggs, and an RBI single by Brubaker.  

JV Baseball wins 10-7 versus Madison. The Waynesville Spartans JV took the lead in the third inning and held on for the victory. A steal of home by Jonas Boggs gave the Waynesville Spartans JV the lead for good. It was a good day at the plate for the Waynesville Spartans JV's Ryan Lay. Lay went 3-4 and scored two runs. He tripled in the first inning and singled in the third and fifth innings. Brady Stone recorded the win for the Waynesville Spartans JV even though he allowed seven runs over six innings. Stone struck out nine, walked none and gave up 10 hits. Waynesville Spartans JV closer Micah Spille put away the final three outs to record the save. The top of the first saw Madison Senior take an early lead, 3-0. Madison Senior 's offense woke up as Jones doubled before Thompson singled, bringing home Jones. Madison Senior then tacked on more runs when Thompson scored on an RBI single by Paarlberg and Paarlberg scored on an error. It didn't take long for the Waynesville Spartans JV to answer as they scored three runs of their own in the second. The Waynesville Spartans JV scored on an RBI single by Alex Hurley, a passed ball, and an RBI double by Cameron Anderson. The Waynesville Spartans JV went up for good in the third scoring six total runs, which came home on a two-run double by Stone and three singles. A one-run sixth inning helped bring Madison Senior within three. An RBI single by Jones fueled Madison Senior 's comeback. The Waynesville Spartans JV stopped the rally after Stone got Durnil to strike out.   

Boys Tennis: This has been a busy week with 5 matches. Last Friday the Spartans Tennis Team defeated Franklin 4-2. On Monday we defeated a tough Fenwick team 3-2. Tuesday a Northridge conference match we defeated 5-0. On Wednesday and Thursday we lost matches vs Oakwood and Bellbrook.   Other team news is the JV team who has a record of 4-3. The JV team consist of:  James Schneider-1st singles, Seth Sturgull-2nd singles, Double players: Daniel Papenak, Joe Bensman, Eric Jones, and Mario Pomero  

WAYNESVILLE SPARTANS TO PLAY AT FIFTH THIRD FIELD – DAYTON DRAGONS TICKETS AVAILABLE   The WHS varsity baseball team will once again be selling Dayton Dragons tickets to members of the community. In exchange for the sale of tickets, the varsity team will have the opportunity to play at Fifth Third Field on Thursday, May 5th at 4:30 PM against Oakwood High School. The cost of attendance is free to the high school games. Tickets for Dragons games are for Friday, May 13th beginning at 7:00 PM and Sunday, May 22nd beginning at 2:00 PM. The cost is $10 per ticket. This annual sale serves as a fundraiser to help offset the cost of our team camp at Higher Ground. Each bag of “Triple Shredded Dark Black Gold” mulch is $5. Lady Spartans Youth VB Mini-Season Practice Dates: April 18, 20, 25, 27, and May 2, 4. (Always Mondays and Wednesdays) 6th Grade Practices:2:45-5 Grades 2-5: 3:30-5 (We will have them gather in elementary gym and walk to the high school with a coach)
