SPORTS AND BAND UPDATE FOR 9/20/2019

Boys Soccer

            Boys soccer traveled to Bishop Fenwick on Thursday, and they will take on Wilmington on Saturday. The team has been putting in work, including planning an early morning practice this week! They continue to exhibit their true dedication to the sport.
           
Girls Soccer
            The Lady Spartans took on one of their hardest opponents, state-ranked Alter. Although they lost with a score of 2-1, the team fought hard. The goal was scored by Jenna Foley off of a PK. The team remains persistent and looks forward to their upcoming games!
 
Boys Golf
            Boys Golf began their week with a win against Wilmington and finished their week with a second place finish in the League Championship Tournament. Highlights of the tournament were Sam Warren taking home First Team All-League, Bryce Cumbow taking home Second Team All-League, and Joey Hobbs taking home Honorable Mention. Boys Golf finished the season 5-1 in the league and 9-6 overall.
 
Girls Golf
            Girls Golf had three matches this week and are continuing to improve their play with each stroke. The team has worked hard all season to learn new aspects of the game and are excited for their next match on 9/26 vs Little Miami
 
Cross Country
            Despite the recent heat, the cross country team continued at full speed with races at Cedarville over the weekend. The HS boys lead off the day with a championship effort to win the DII-III race over several more ranked teams. Our Men were lead by Colin Amato placing 4th and Kaden Harvey placing 5th, Trevor Camp was 11th, Denver Johnson 15th, Caden Adams in 25th, Eli Click 34th and Levi Morgan in 45th. Next was Jackson Berger in 48th, AJ Seidenschmidt 53rd, Grant Kazmierski 64th, Noah Wooldridge 73rd, Ernie Taylor 78th, Ryan Leopold 98th, Stefan Muterspaw, Carson Shutts, Addison Cummins, and David Weaver rounded out our runners in a field of 30 teams and 394 runners. 
    The HS girls were runners-up to a strong Indian Hill team. Hope Erbach lead the way with a 3rd place finish followed by Elizabeth McKeehan in 10th, Alyza Camp in 14th, Carissa Tekeste in 15th, and Kate Handle in 21st. Ava Amato was close behind in 22nd followed by Rachel Ingle in 36th, Megan Zidaroff in 52nd, Jordan Patterson in 67th, Hannah gill in 69th and Lexi Youtsey in the 24 team field of 262 runners.
Their next meet is at the Centerville Night Lights XC Race. This is one of the premier races in the state and every year it draws teams from not only all over Ohio but some of the top teams from other states as well. This is the largest meet the team has been to with 15 separate races. Teams must be invited to compete and the cross country team is excited to take on this course for the first time. Instead of their typical early morning calls, they will run as the sun sets and into the night for a unique experience.
 
Football
            Varsity Football traveled to Blanchester last Friday to take on the Wildcats for week three. The Spartans started the game with strong defense, ending the first half with a 15-7 lead. Shortly after a lightning delay in the third quarter, the offense turned up the heat and ended the quarter with 36 points on the board. The final score for the night was 43-14. 
            Key players for the night were Senior Jaymes Bowman and Junior Paul Dotson who contributed two touchdowns a piece. Juniors Jake Amburgy and Luke Osborn also added to the score, while Junior kicker Eli St. Pierre contributed five extra points. The team shined as a whole this game, showing a strong group effort with each play. Varsity Football returns to Waynesville on 9/20 when they take on Bellbrook for Military Appreciation Night. 
            JV Football also faced Blanchester and had a stellar performance last Saturday morning. The Spartans dominated the field and earned the sweep for the week, defeating the Wildcats 32-6. JV Football is away this week, playing at Bellbrook on Saturday 9/21.
 
Volleyball
            The volleyball team swept Carlisle last Thursday from middle school to high school. Monday, the girls unfortunately lost to tough Southeastern. On Wednesday, the team came back strong and varsity and JV both won. Volleyball continues to have a fantastic season.
 
Girls Tennis
            Girls tennis celebrated their seniors on Monday with a 5-0 win against Franklin. This year’s seniors are Jade Buckland, Emma Philpot, Katelyn Abney, and Emery Siders. The tennis team is currently 4-2 in the league, and continue to improve each week. The team will take their talents to the SWBL League Tournament on Monday September 23 at Centerville High School. 
 
Marching Band
            The band will travel to Hamilton for their first contest of the season. They are excited to get feedback and continue to enjoy performing for both home and away crowds. They thank all for their support!
 
JH Football 
            7th grade football was away at Preble Shawnee on Wednesday this week and brought the victory back home to Waynesville. 8th grade played at Springboro on Thursday night and also brought home a win. The team continues to play hard each week and will play again on 9/25 at home against Milton-Union. 
 
JH Volleyball
            JH Volleyball played three games this week against Little Miami, Valley View, and Northridge. The Lady Spartans played hard and kept in the game for each match they played. JH Volleyball picks back up on 9/24 when they play at Eaton
