Football
Varsity Football continued their incredible season last Friday, defeating the Carlisle Indians 48-14. The Spartan offense attacked first, putting up 34 points in the first half. The defense held strong and kept the Indians scoreless throughout the first half; as they only allowed 14 points. Five different Spartans made it into the endzone- Jake Amburgy, Jaymes Bowman, Parker Struewing, Brayden Dietz, and Seth Bloom. Sara O’Connor also kicked 6 extra points last friday, helping secure the win. 
 
JV Football also played the Carlisle Indians this week, defeating them 50-30. They will return to play on Saturday 10/26 against the Northridge Polar Bears. The game will be at Home and kickoff is set for 10:00 am. 
 
Not only were they the winning team last week, but the Spartans were also WDTN Channel 2 Team of the Week. Also, Seth Bloom’s touchdown earned the honor of being the Dayton 24/7 now Play of the Week for Week 8. Varsity Football returns to the field on Thursday 10/24 for a special Thursday Night Lights game against league opponent Northridge. Kickoff is at 7:06, and tickets are $6 at the gate.
 
Junior High Football
Junior High Football played the Northridge Polar Bears last week, with both the 7th and 8th grade teams taking home wins. The 7th graders won 40-6 and the 8th grade team won 37-0. This past week earned the 8th grade their fourth-straight shutout of the season. Both teams will play for the league title on 10/23 against Madison. 7th grade is set to begin at 5:00pm, with the 8th grade to follow. Tickets are $4 at the gate. 
 
Boys Soccer 
Boys Soccer played against Ross in the Sectional Final on Saturday 10/19. The Spartan offense was lead by Jake Duncan, who scored the Spartans lone goal of the match. Boys Soccer capped off an incredible season as League Champions for the fourth season in a row with an overall record of 16-2-0.
 
Girls Soccer
Girls Soccer played two tournament games these past two weeks, defeating second round opponent Dixie 7-0 and third round opponent Bethel 1-0. The Spartans will take on Maderia in the District final on 10/24 at Monroe High School. The game will begin at 5:30 and tickets can be purchased at the gate for $6. 
          
Cross Country
Another fantastic weekend for the Waynesville harriers as our HS boys and girls both were district runners-up at the Cedarville district. Our girls were lead by Carissa Tekeste who ran a 54 second PR to place 10th with an outstanding time of 19:49. Our next 4 girls also PR'd with Alyza Camp placing 14th in 20:16, Elizabeth McKeehan in 15th in 20:21, Rachel Ingle in 33rd in 21:16, and Ava Amato finishing in 35th in 21:19. Kate Handle finished in 52nd and Hannah Gill in 58th out of 150 girls. Our boys were only 4 points away from a district championship with Colin Amato finishing in 8th placed followed closely by Kaden Harvey in 10th. Next in was Trevor Camp in 24th, Eli Click in 30th with a 10 sec. PR of 17:28 and Caden Adams with an 11 sec. PR of 17:32 in 32nd. Denver Johnson was in 48th with Levi Morgan in 68th out of 162 runners. Next up will be the Regional Championships at Troy next Saturday. The girls will run at 11:45 with the boys running at 2:15
 
Our Junior High team ran at the Middle School State Championships this past Sunday at Dublin Jerome High School with the boys placing third and our girls winning a State Championship! Our boys were lead by Jonas King who was crowned the division II state champion running the course in 10:54 beating the second place finisher by more than 4 seconds. Celton Walton was next for the Spartans in 11:51 placing 15th with Adam Papanek in 17th at 11:54 and Wade Von Handoff in 19th at 11:59. Abram Bailey placed 55th in 12:57 followed by Gabe Wooldridge in 62nd, Connor Huffman in 65th, followed by Owen Burton and Decker Atkins out of 140 runners. Our girls scored a total of 33 points, 40 points ahead of second place Minerva. Sam Erbach was first with Maria Gill 2nd, some 7 seconds ahead of the third place girl. Kyla Harvey was 5th, Olivia Walters with a new PR in 7th and Emme Greely in 18th. Makayla Bell was next in 30th followed by Isabel King in 42nd and Alena Wooldridge out of nearly 100 girls. 
 
Volleyball
 The Volleyball team continued tournament play this past week, taking on East Clinton and Williamsburg. The Spartans first defeated East Clinton in four sets on Saturday, to move on to the Sectional Final against Williamsburg on Tuesday. The Spartans played a tough match against the Wildcats, but were unable to defeat them after three sets. The team finished the season 19-6 overall and 12-0 in the league. 
 
The Lady Spartans also brought home multiple All-League honors with Seniors Lydia Vrettos and Kenzie Purkey took home 1st Team, Juniors Fallon Bradford and Jenna Turner took home 2nd team, as well as Junior Kiersten Williams and Sophomore Amaya Dolce who took home Honorable Mention. Coach Kelley Purkey was given the honor of Coach of the Year for the Buckeye Division.
