This year's Canned Food Drive was a tremendous success as each building ran their own incentive contest and collection process.
On Friday of last week, the trucks arrived and student volunteers from the junior and senior high buildings helped load the trucks at the end of the day. We had over 100 volunteers loading and it took over an hour to get the job done because we had that much in the way of donations!!
After the trucks were loaded, many high school athletes, Jr./Sr. High student council members, and the boys high school football and basketball teams and coaches drove to the American Legion to help unload the donations where they were sorted, and prepared for holiday baskets.
This effort is such as amazing experience as we became witness to exactly how generous our community can be and how Waynesville takes care of our friends and neighbors.
Thank you Waynesville!
In coordination with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit Post 615, the Canned Food Drive will be held the first half of December to supply the Christmas Boxes and also to support our local food bank and area residents in need through the holiday season.
Start now by purchasing a little extra here and there to really bulk up your donations. Each building (WES, WMS, WHS) will be running slightly different incentive challenges and will be sending information for their collections.
Lots of great ideas to choose from... meal kits, pastas and sauces, canned veggies (green beans, corn, carrots, etc), fruits, heat and eat easy meals, pastas and sauces, cereals, peanut butter and jelly, canned meat, soups, and on and on! All food donations should be non-perishable. Watch for details on the specifics of your building contests.
*Note: Flour, sugar, and canned/powdered milks were removed as they are not something that keeps well on the shelves of the food pantry.
**Note: Items in bold are more heavily used.
Thank You to our local partner and sponsor for the event.... The American Legion Auxiliary Unit, Post 615.
Ready, Set, GO!
