Summary of Final Four Match-up and Regional Championship:
Waynesville Girls Soccer made history Tuesday night at Chillicothe by beating Eastern 5-0 to advance to the Division III State Championship game for the first time in school history!  The Lady Spartans dominated possession from the beginning but struggled to find the back of the net until about 20 minutes into the first half when sophomore Samantha Erbach crossed the ball into the box for freshman Baylee Williams to finish past the keeper.  Sophomore Jillian Layne scored one more goal in the first half off of sophomore Kyla Harvey’s assist to make the score at halftime 2-0.  Waynesville continued their attack in the second half when Erbach found junior Allie Freese on the right wing, who ripped a shot off the back of a defender and into the goal.  Erbach followed up with a goal of her own assisted by junior Laine Kuhns.  Williams grabbed the final goal of the night with a beautiful one-touch finish off of junior Libby Bulach’s corner kick.

The Lady Spartans advanced to the State Final Four by winning the Regional Championship Saturday night against Mariemont.  Although Waynesville again maintained possession for the majority of the game, they didn’t find the back of the net until early in the second half when sophomore Caroline Stupp found Erbach on the left wing.  Erbach beat a defender to get the ball into the box and finessed it past the keeper for the game-winning goal.  Strong defensive efforts by junior goalkeeper Gracyn Armstrong, senior defenders Savanna Amburgy and Kate Handle, junior defenders Laine Kuhns and Allie Freese, and sophomore defender Emme Greely shut down the opposing team’s offense and earned 2 more shut-outs on the season, bringing the team’s total to 14.

Waynesville Girls Soccer Beats Cincinnati Country Day in the Regional Semifinals!
Posted:  11-5-2021

The Lady Spartans advanced to the Regional Finals after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cincinnati Country Day Tuesday night.  Waynesville travelled to Monroe to face the Nighthawks in a rematch of last year's Regional Semifinal game.  The Lady Spartans scored the only goal of the game 10 minutes into the first half when Sam Erbach ripped a beautiful one-touch finish goal past the keeper off of Allie Freese's corner kicked.  Strong play in the midfield by Emma Whitaker, Caroline Stupp, Brooke Woody, Jillian Layne, Libby Bulach, Baylee Williams, Freese, and Erbach won possession and provided some other scoring opportunities for Waynesville that were thwarted by CCD's keeper.  Waynesville's keeper, Gracyn Armstrong, had a phenomenal performance in the net with 17 saves and was supported by outstanding plays by defenders Savanna Amburgy, Kate Handle, Laine Kuhns, and Emme Greely who foiled CCD's attacks on goal for the next 70 minutes earning their 12 shut-out of the season.  With the 1-0 win, the Lady Spartans are one of eight teams left in the State Tournament.  Waynesville will play Mariemont for the Regional Championship Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7 pm at Bellbrook
