January is School Board Recognition Month & we continue to celebrate our Board of Education members who dedicate countless hours to the success of our district!  This week, we are featuring Board Member Darren Amburgy.

Darren Amburgy, President

5th Year as a Waynesville Schools' BOE Member (2nd term)

What is the one top reason why you love our district so much?
"Hometown Pride – I am proud to say that this is my hometown.  I grew up in Waynesville and attended Wayne Local schools K-12.  I graduated from WHS in 1987.  I have many lifelong friends and former classmates that still live here.  My parents still live here.  This is a great community to raise kids and build memories."

What is the Best Part About Serving as a BOE Member?
"My Waynesville education has opened many doors for me.  I view this BOE role as an opportunity to give back to the community and help ensure every student gets a quality education to pursue their life goals, whatever those may be."

Have You or a Family Member Ever Worked/Volunteered in Waynesville Schools in Another Roll?
"My mother worked at Wayne Local Schools as an administrative assistant for 26 years (1989 – 2015).  In addition, I served on the Waynesville Youth Basketball Association Board for 6 years and was the president of this organization from 2013 – 2017.  I was a volunteer football, basketball, and baseball coach for 11 years."

What is Something Important You'd Like the Community to Know About Waynesville Schools?
"Waynesville schools are committed to excellence.  Wayne Local strives to prepare each student for the next phase of their life regardless of what their career goals/objectives may be and to ultimately become productive citizens.  Every year, our graduates go on to attend college, work a trade or serve in the military."
