Update:  2-5-19

Due to snow days, we are moving the Ice Cream Social to Wednesday, February 6th.

Middle School Service Project- Donations requested

The 6th grade has recently finished reading A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park and the students were moved  to give back after learning about the daily struggles that many citizens of the South Sudan endure; things like poverty, lack of education, violence, and the lack of clean water.  With the help of the Middle School Student Council, on January 23rd the Middle School will host an Ice Cream Social to raise money for the Iron Giraffe Challenge.  The Iron Giraffe Challenge is a program set up by Salva Dut. Salva was the inspiration behind the book students read.  Salva has started an organization to help the people of the South Sudan gain access to clean drinking water by building wells in villages that need it the most. Water for South Sudan delivers sustainable, life- changing programs that strengthen individuals, families, communities and the nation of South Sudan, enabled by inspired supporters world-wide.

Students will be asked to donate $3 presale and $4 the day of to participate during STEP and receive an ice cream sundae.  We are currently asking for any donations of ice cream supplies (bowls, napkins, spoons) and toppings of sorts (syrups, candies, marshmallows, etc.) to help offset the cost of our fundraiser.  All donations can be dropped off in the Middle School Office or brought to Mrs. Harvey in room 109 in the Middle School.  Monetary donations are also always welcome too.  Students have a goal of $1000 to help bring clean water to South Sudan Villages. Checks can be made to Waynesville Middle School and on the Memo line “Iron Giraffe Challenge.” You can also make donations straight to our fundraising page https://www.classy.org/team/205341.
