Mary L. Cook Public Library (MLCPL) and Wayne Local Schools (WLS) will work together to design, plan, and establish a community center on the Wayne Local Schools campus. On September 19, 2017, the Mary L. Cook Public Library Board of Trustees passed a resolution in support of a partnership with Wayne Local Schools. Wayne Local Schools has a 4.68 mill bond issue on the ballot for construction of a new elementary building and a community center. The center would include an auditorium and flexible meeting space for both school and community programs and services.
Previously MLCPL and WLS successfully partnered to establish a library branch in Waynesville Elementary School. MLCPL strives to gather people, information, and ideas to enrich lives and build community by providing creative programs such as exhibits, concerts, films, art classes, writing clubs and educational programs on topics such as health, finances, taxes, business, civic and social concerns, and desires to expand its provision of programs and services to the community. MLCPL is investing capital, personnel and a budget towards the operation and success of the community center. The community center will provide opportunities for Wayne Local School students and the larger community.
