Waynesville dominated in their opening round tournament game with an 8-0 win over Tri County North.  Junior Allie Freese started the scoring for the Lady Spartans with a cross in front of the net that was accidentally played into the goal by a Tri County North player.  Sophomore Brooke Woody followed up with a goal of her own, hustling to keep the play alive and finish Freese’s cross.  Then, sophomore Sam Erbach earned a hat trick for the game scoring 3 goals in a row before the end of the first half.  She was set up for those goals with assists from sophomore Kyla Harvey and freshman Baylee Williams.  Senior Emma Whitaker got the goals started in the second half with a strong shot from the penalty box into the side netting off an assist from Erbach.  Goal #7 came when a corner kick by Freese was headed past the keeper into the back of the net by Erbach.  The final goal of the game came when junior Alyza Camp found Williams open in the middle of the field.  After taking a touch to beat a defender, Williams found the back of the net with her shot from the penalty box.  Junior goalkeeper Gracyn Armstrong and the Waynesville defense earned their 9th shutout of the season with strong play and solid possession.  The Lady Spartans continue their tournament run Monday night at Springboro High School.  They will be taking on Botkins in the District Semifinal at 7 pm.  Tickets can be purchased at https://www.ohsaa.org/tickets.  Select Girls Soccer as the sport.  When you’re trying to find the game, we’re Division III, Region 12, Southwest 4.  Come out and support the Lady Spartans against Botkins!
