JARED CANTU
(Intervention Specialist and Peers Program)

Jared Cantu received an award for the "Peers Program."    The Supportive Peers is a program where high school students are placed in K-12 classrooms to assist students who have exceptional needs.  They often work with our younger learners.  The peers are chosen through an application process.  They attend mandatory training related to the classroom and/or student(s) to whom they are assigned.

Supportive Peers is a Win-Win!  The benefits of Supportive Peers are:

  • The programs helps to strengthen the sense of community among our students.
  • Typical peers interact positively with students with disabilities.
  • Students who participate become life-long advocates for others.
  • The program supports students with special needs in our district and our young learners.
