A disturbing trend has emerged on TikTok which is being viewed as a national school shooting threat, specifically targeting Friday, December 17, 2021.

While no specific threats have been made against Wayne Local Schools, other schools have received threats that are being investigated. The Office of Homeland Security is aware of this situation and has confirmed that the message shared is being spread across the country.

We know and understand the concerns and anxiety these situations create for our families. We want to reiterate the following:

 Please talk with your child(ren) and emphasize the importance of sharing information or concerns regarding threats or the potential for dangerous behaviors with a trusted adult. Anonymous reports may also be made by going to: Bully Tip Line (https://www.waynelocal.com/resources/bullying-%2B-harassment-4/).

 Remind your child about the consequences of making threats. Threats are illegal and charges to the fullest extent of the law are possible.

Social media is a powerful tool often used to influence others, and not always for the good. It is always important to remain vigilant when it involves these types of threats. Please take time to talk to your students about the influence of social media and the potential consequences of engaging in this type of behavior.

Our Security Resource Officer and Waynesville Police Department are aware of this TikTok message. We have worked with local law enforcement to increase police presence tomorrow.

We all have a responsibility and role in keeping our students and community safe.
